Quality Measurement Development is a portfolio within HSR that supports the research necessary within VA to design, test and refine quality indicators, provider performance tools and systematic approaches to evaluating quality of care. HSR-funded research responds to VA's commitment to quality through science that ensures that the patient-centered care provided to veterans is safe, timely, equitable, effective and efficient. This portfolio encompasses a wide range of issues including the development and evaluation of clinical performance measures and programmatic assessments that capture provider quality and efficiency as well as clinical benefit to the patient. HSR also is interested in research leading to innovation in quality measurement and studies that examine practice trends and provider practice patterns in relationship to variability in quality of care.
