Description: Dr. Logue will discuss his recent paper investigating how posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) interact to influence Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD) risk. Using data from the Million Veteran Program (MVP), he and his team studied the impact of APOE e4 (the largest AD risk factor), PTSD, and TBI on ADRD prevalence in Veteran cohorts of European ancestry (EA; n=11,112 ADRD cases, 170,361 controls) and African ancestry (AA; n=1,443 ADRD cases, 16,191 controls). They found evidence of additive-scale interactions indicating that ADRD prevalence associated with PTSD and TBI increased with the number of inherited APOE e4 alleles. Dr. Logue will present a basic overview of ADRD genetics, MVP, and the details of his study. Intended audience: Clinicians, research, and administrative personnel with an interest in how PTSD, TBI, and dementia risk in a large VA cohort.
