Description: This presentation will discuss the use of Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV) for research using VA electronic health record (EHR) data. JLV is used for reviewing patients’ electronic health records from VA, DoD, and Community Partners through a customizable web-based interface. Chart review helps researchers capture data not available in the Corporate Data Warehouse (CDW), validate CDW data extraction strategies/algorithms, assess selection of CDW data domains/tables, and it is useful when real-time data is needed. The presenter will discuss how to use JLV to facilitate chart review for research purposes, highlighting specifically useful features and strategies. Session Objectives • Briefly introduce the Joint Legacy Viewer (JLV) as a chart review tool (participants are encouraged to complete JLV basic training before the session: JLV Speed Training – 5 Topics/5 Minutes) • Describe data type considerations in conducting a chart review • Explain how specific functions in JLV facilitate record review • Describe a search strategy for accessing Community Health Records • Present examples of using JLV in the research context
