Description: To meet increasing demand for care, the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) is considering increasing productivity standards for providers. Economic theory suggests a trade-off between productivity and quality of care. Preliminary analysis shows that the trade-off between productivity and quality of care is 6%, if the VHA increase the productivity standard by 6% for all primary care providers the average patient satisfaction rate will decrease by 1%. Intended Audience: Researchers who are interested in understanding the trade-off between provider workload and maintaining high quality of care, which are both outputs of healthcare providers (i.e. endogenous).
