Description: The researchers will talk about their new research project, “RAMP,” funded by the National Institute for Nursing Research (NINR), as part of the NIH HEAL (Helping to End Addiction Long-term) initiative. This project addresses the significant challenge of providing evidence-based non-pharmacologic pain management to rural-dwelling Veterans in the VA healthcare system who have chronic pain. This study will: 1) test the effectiveness of an innovative multi-component complementary and integrative intervention (RAMP-WH) delivered via group telehealth, at improving rural Veterans’ pain management, function, and wellbeing, within the VA healthcare system and 2) evaluate, adapt, and devise strategies for implementing RAMP-WH to rural patients in the VA healthcare system in partnership with our patient, community, and VA stakeholders. RAMP-WH is a 12-week program, comprised of pain education, mindfulness, pain specific exercises, and cognitive behavioral strategies and is cohesive, scalable and is designed to be implemented within the VA through its nationwide Whole Health System initiative.
Target audience: Researchers, clinicians, and policymakers interested in Whole Health/Complementary and Integrative Health approaches for pain.
