Medicare Data in the OMOP Common Data Model

Description: This presentation will describe the VA's transformation of Medicare data into the OMOP common data model (CDM) and how the data in this format allows it to be more easily used with other instances of OMOP data in VA. The presenter will discuss benefits to using Medicare data in this format and demonstrate how Medicare and VA data in OMOP format can be used together.

Objectives:
• Provide an overview of Medicare data and how it can be used to assess Veterans' health services use outside VA
• Describe the structure of the OMOP common data model
• Discuss the benefits and limitations of using Medicare data in the OMOP common data model
• Describe how the VA and Medicare data can be analyzed together by utilizing the OMOP versions of these data
• Explain where to find support for working with Medicare OMOP data
