Progressive Tinnitus Management (PTM) Multisite Study. Poster session presented at: Joint Defense / Veteran Audiology Annual Conference; 2015 Mar 3; Orlando, FL.
A multisite study at the VA Connecticut Healthcare System and Memphis TN VA Hospital was built upon the James A. Haley VA Hospital pilot program to provide a more comprehensive methodology-with the addition of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) coping skills education. The modified PTM protocol has the capability of providing uniformity of tinnitus care. Experimental subjects were randomly assigned to receive the PTM protocol immediately upon enrolling in the study. Controls were those who were randomly assigned to the 6-month, wait-list condition. The aims of this PTM Multisite study were to: (a) determine if the modified PTM protocol was significantly more efficacious than usual care for Veteran patients; (b) determine if VA audiologists and psychologists consider the modified PTM protocol to be satisfactory for clinical implementation; and (c) identify any barriers to implementing the modified PTM protocol and learn how they can be resolved. The results from the study will be discussed as well as PTM resources available to VA and DoD audiologists.
