Society for Healthcare Epidemiology Honors CRIISP Investigator Eli Perencevich

Eli Perencevich, MD, MS will be the recipient of the 2010 Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America's (SHEA) Investigator Award. Dr. Perencevich, MD, MS, is an infectious diseases physician and epidemiologist with the VA HSR&D Center for Research in the Implementation of Innovative Strategies in Practice (CRIISP) at the Iowa City VA Medical Center.

Dr. Perencevich has over 70 publications in the areas of infection control outcomes and economic analysis of hospital infections. He was lead author on a 2007 SHEA guideline on economic and business-case evaluation of infection control interventions. Dr. Perencevich has mentored or co-mentored 20 faculty, students and fellows in the areas of infection control, outcomes research, and cost-effectiveness. Since 2002, Dr. Perencevich has been a VA HSRD-funded investigator, and also is a VA HSR&D Advanced Career Development Awardee.

Bestowed by the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, the award is intended to recognize the work of investigators with less than 15 years experience in the field of infection control and healthcare epidemiology whose contributions in this field have been exemplary. The award will be presented to Dr. Perencevich in late March 2010.
