Samuel Edwards is a primary care physician, general internist, and health services researcher at the Portland Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Dr. Edwards's research focuses on the role and function of primary care, with a focus on the care of high-need individuals through Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC). His Career Development Award uses mixed methods to explore what features of HBPC drive its success in reducing hospitalizations for ambulatory care sensitive conditions, and will use these insights to develop an intervention to promote best practices in HBPC.
Dr. Edwards received his medical degree from the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, completed residency in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, and completed fellowship in General Medicine and Primary Care at Harvard Medical School, VA Boston Healthcare System, and Brigham and Women's Hospital.
