Robert E. Burke MD, MS, is a Core Investigator at the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion (CHERP) at the Corporal Crescenz VA Medical Center in Philadelphia, PA and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. His research interests are in improving outcomes of vulnerable populations around care transitions and improving health care policies that promote the ability of older adults to remain in the community. His VA Career Development Award seeks to understand what processes of care influence outcomes of transitions of older Veterans from the hospital to skilled nursing facilities, and he is using NIH funding to understand provider and patient decision-making about post-acute care (PAC) in order to better match patient needs with resources. He also holds VA Office of Rural Health funding for national dissemination of a nurse-led intervention to improve care transitions of rural Veterans. He was selected as a 2017-18 Health and Aging Policy Fellow to improve his ability to contribute to effective health policy as it relates to older adult populations. He is active in quality improvement work and serves as an Associate Editor of BMJ Quality & Safety.
