Barbara Jones, MD, MSc, is a pulmonary and critical care physician and health services researcher at the Salt Lake City VA (SLC VA). She is an investigator at the Informatics, Decision Enhancement and Analytic Sciences (IDEAS 2.0) Center of Innovation at the SLC VA. She is also an assistant professor in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Utah School of Medicine. She received her bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, medical degree from the University of Washington, and completed her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at the University of Utah.

Dr. Jones' career development award, "Understanding and Improving Decision-Making in Pneumonia with Informatics," employs mixed methods to examine practice variation for pneumonia across emergency departments in the VA system. Her research focuses on using the electronic health database, qualitative methods, and decision support to identify sources of variation in antimicrobial prescribing and site-of-care decisions. The overall goal of this research is to apply novel techniques in population analytics, behavioral science, and informatics to learn from practice variation and to gain insight into how to promote a standard of care that is adaptable to a variety of patients and settings.
