Robyn L. Shepardson, Ph.D., is a clinical research psychologist at the VA Center for Integrated Healthcare (CIH), based at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. She is also licensed and maintains a part-time clinic in Primary Care-Mental Health Integration (PC-MHI). She earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Syracuse University in 2013 after completing a predoctoral internship in the health psychology/behavioral medicine track at the Brown Clinical Psychology Training Consortium. She completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in clinical research in PC-MHI at CIH then transitioned into a junior investigator role. Dr. Shepardson's program of research focuses on developing, testing, and implementing brief evidence-based interventions for anxiety and depression for Veterans seen in primary care through PC-MHI. Her work aims to increase access to, and engagement in, integrated behavioral healthcare that incorporates Veterans' treatment preferences. Dr. Shepardson has also conducted research on peer support, sexual health, sexual risk behavior, and health behaviors including alcohol and tobacco use. The goal of her HSR&D Career Development Award is to develop, refine, and evaluate a brief, evidence-based anxiety intervention that will be acceptable to Veterans and feasible for providers to implement in the unique PC-MHI setting.
