Drs. Frakt and Garrido Assume New Editorial Roles at Health Services Research

Austin Frakt, PhD, and Melissa Garrido, PhD, investigators with the HSR&D/QUERI-funded Partnered Evidence-based Policy Resource Center (PEPReC), have begun new editorial roles at the journal Health Services Research (HSR). As of January 2021, Dr. Frakt becomes HSR’s Editor-in-Chief, and Dr. Garrido will serve as the journal’s Senior Associate Editor, a position held by Dr. Frakt since 2018. HSR is the official journal of AcademyHealth, the country’s leading professional organization for health services research professionals.

Dr. Frakt is the Director of PEPReC, which provides timely, rigorous data analysis to support the development of high-priority policy, planning, and management initiatives. It also coordinates and supports the design and implementation of randomized program evaluations with strong potential to improve the quality and efficiency of VA healthcare. With more 100 peer-reviewed publications to his, Dr. Frakt is a leading authority on healthcare financing, economics, and policy. He is the primary author of the evidence-based health policy blog, The Incidental Economist, and a regular contributor on health policy topics to The New York Times. He also serves on the editorial board of The American Journal of Managed Care.

Dr. Frakt is also a Professor of Health Law, Policy & Management at the Boston University School of Public Health and a Senior Research Scientist in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

Dr. Garrido is Associate Director of PEPReC, and her research focuses on access to mental healthcare and quality for individuals with serious physical illnesses, as well as on econometric methods. In addition to her role at PEPReC, she is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Health Law, Policy and Management at the Boston University School of Public Health.
