JAMA 'Author in the Room' series features Dr. Mary Whooley
June 13, 2012
VA HSR&D investigator Mary Whooley, M.D. will be featured as a part of JAMA's monthly "Author in the Room" conference series, to be held on Wednesday, June 20, from 2:00pm to 3:00pm (ET). Dr. Whooley will discuss her recently published article "Diagnosis and Treatment of Depression in Adults with Comorbid Conditions: A 52-Year-Old Man with Depression."
Through a previous HSR&D-funded study, Dr. Whooley developed a two-item depression screening tool i, now known as the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-2), which has been adopted across the VA healthcare system, the UK National Health Service, and numerous managed care organizations. She is also Principal Investigator of the VA- and National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-funded Heart and Soul Study, a 10-year prospective cohort study of over 1000 patients with stable coronary artery disease that was designed to determine how depression leads to adverse cardiovascular outcomes.
The Author in the Room® is a partnership between the Institute for Healthcare Improvement and JAMA, and is designed to facilitate the transition of science into practice. For more information about Dr. Whooley's session, or about the Author in the Room® series, please visit the IHI website.
